HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT TATTOO ARTIST

Browse an independent directory of tattoo shops across America. Compare locations, public rating snapshots, hours, websites, and services such as custom work, walk-ins, flash, and piercing. Always confirm availability and artist portfolios directly with the studio before booking.

BUILD YOUR SHORTLIST

  1. Choose a location and style. Browse local studios, then narrow your options to artists whose work fits your idea.
  2. Compare individual portfolios. Follow the studio website link and look for similar designs, placement and healed work. A shop rating covers the business; an artist's portfolio shows their work.
  3. Contact the studio. Share your references, approximate size and placement. Confirm the artist, quote, deposit and booking process.

Walk-in, flash or custom tattoo?

These terms describe different parts of the process. Walk-in is how you visit; flash and custom describe how the design starts. A studio may offer all three.

How the directory works

Listings combine public business information, Google rating snapshots, business websites, and reader or owner corrections. A listing is not an endorsement, certification, or claim that we have visited the shop. Learn about our sources, ranking formula, advertising, and correction process in our editorial policy.

Finding and comparing tattoo shops

Use the nearby shop finder to search by location and compare studios by distance. You can also browse the city and state directories without sharing your location. Open a shop listing for its address, phone, posted hours and website, then confirm availability with the studio.

Walk-in describes visiting without an appointment. Flash describes an existing design an artist offers. Custom describes a design developed for your idea. A flash tattoo may still need an appointment, and a walk-in artist may be able to draw a small custom piece. Ask the studio which options are available for your design and date.

Use style tags to build a shortlist, then open each studio's website and review the individual artist's portfolio. Look for examples close to your intended style, size and placement, including healed work when available. Ask who would do the tattoo, how consultations work and whether the artist is taking bookings.

Ask the artist or studio for a quote with your design idea, approximate size, placement and reference images. Confirm any shop minimum, hourly or per-piece pricing, estimated number of sessions, deposit and cancellation terms. Our directory does not provide live price quotes or booking availability.

Our ranked lists use Google rating snapshots and review counts, with at least 25 reviews required. The formula adjusts ratings toward the directory average to account for small review samples. Shops cannot pay for a higher position. Read the ranking methodology and compare artist portfolios as well as ratings when choosing a studio.
