Order is by a Bayesian-adjusted rating: each shop's Google rating is pulled toward the directory average in proportion to how few reviews back it, so a 5.0 from six reviews does not outrank a 4.9 from eight hundred. The stars shown are the raw Google rating and review count.

What locals say about Madison tattoo shops
Pulled from Google reviews of the top-rated shops in Madison.
“This shop is amazing I traveled 4 hours from my hometown after finding Janelle through a post on instagram her work on her social media page was the style I was looking for so I scheduled my appointment and waited, once the stencil was applied I found myself realizing that Janelle is a tattoo artist with true care for her craft. She moved my stencil around till she found the perfect placement and fit once it was applied with meticulous care she went to work with occasionally question if I was doing okay and if I needed a break it reassured me that I was in good hands with a professional. I have been tattooed a lot but her skills blew me away, if you ever are in the area or want a tattoo from an flawless professional artist please contact Janelle Hanson or any of the artist at Starkweather Tattoo I know they will take care of you”
“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Incredible Tattoo Experience with Joe! I couldn’t be happier with my tattoo — Joe absolutely nailed it! From the moment I walked in, he made me feel comfortable, listened to my ideas, and brought the design to life with such skill and creativity. His attention to detail, steady hand, and professionalism were top-notch. The line work is clean, the shading is flawless, and I’ve already gotten so many compliments. Not only is Joe a true artist, but he also cares about making sure you love what you leave with. He made the whole experience easy and unforgettable. If you’re thinking about getting a tattoo, go to Joe — you won’t regret it. Can’t wait to come back for my next one!”
“Kids' ear lobe piercings: Kita is the best! She spoke directly to my 8 year old the entire time, giving her power, autonomy, and informed consent the entire time. She was also generally really great talking to and working with a child. I always go to and recommend Blue Lotus for my own piercings, I've worked with a handful of different piercers, but I'll be sending all my parent friends to Kita specifically for their own kids!”
