Order is by a Bayesian-adjusted rating: each shop's Google rating is pulled toward the directory average in proportion to how few reviews back it, so a 5.0 from six reviews does not outrank a 4.9 from eight hundred. The stars shown are the raw Google rating and review count.

What locals say about Boston tattoo shops
Pulled from Google reviews of the top-rated shops in Boston.
“I’ve had 7 tattoos done so far and Jorge is AMAZING! My coverup (wolf) is beautiful and no one can even tell it’s a coverup - I came in with a few ideas and Jorge and his wife Genesis took my inspiration photos and created gorgeous pieces for me - So happy with all the work I’ve had here and the shop is such a relaxed and comfortable environment”
“Juan did a fantastic job. I was in Boston for the weekend and the scheduling process was smooth and quick. Submitted a request online and got tattooed the next day. The Customer service, professionalism, and talent made for a great experience for my first tattoo. Not only did they treat me great while there, but also helped me out by shipping some souvenirs to my house that I left in the shop on the day of my visit. I highly recommend Juan and the team at Back Bay Ink to anyone looking for a great piece and worry free tattoo experience.”
“Sofia Franco did my lip blush and she was fantastic. She was extremely knowledgeable about the appropriate colors to be using for my skin tone while taking into account the color I wanted. While the color appears strong right after the appointment, it fades into a more natural color after a few weeks. Sofia was tentative and made sure to check in with me post appointments. She was very easy to get in touch with if I had any questions post and pre appointments. This does require two sessions. The shop was extremely clean and not sketchy. I cannot wait to go back for more. Her eye-liner work is gorgeous and natural. My friend also got a normal tattoo and enjoyed his experience as well. I do have small tattoos and will plan to go back there for a regular tattoo as well.”
