about the situation: ⸻ We had been looking forward to this day for weeks—a family tattoo with a very special meaning to my aunt, cousin, and me. We booked our appointment in advance, sent a picture of the design we wanted, made a deposit, and explained it would be for three people. On the day of the appointment, the time was moved up because the artist was running behind. That was no problem for us—we were just excited for this long-awaited family moment. When we arrived, a man named Jimmy apologized for the wait, and we were completely fine with it. The design we chose was a small, fine-line dragonfly, delicate and meaningful. My cousin decided to go first. Almost immediately, we noticed the artist seemed unsure, which we later realized was because he wasn’t familiar with fine-line work. When my cousin’s tattoo was finished, she walked over to the mirror but could hardly make out the design. She asked for a close-up picture, and that’s when our hearts sank—it was not at all what we had hoped for. The lines were shaky, uneven, and nothing like the simple, clean design we had shared in advance. My cousin begged us not to proceed, especially since it would have been my first tattoo. The experience we had been looking forward to as a bonding moment was completely ruined. The shop did not charge my cousin for the tattoo, but the damage was already done. What should have been a beautiful, memorable family experience turned into a huge disappointment.
On September 27th, my mother, cousin, and I had three appointments scheduled at Seaport Tattoo for 3:00 pm. The time was later rescheduled to 4:30 pm, which we gladly accepted without issue. We were very excited upon arrival, especially as it was my cousin’s first tattoo, and when booking we specifically requested an artist skilled in fine line work. Unfortunately, our experience with Jimmy was extremely disappointing. From the start, he gave off an annoyed demeanor. When my mother asked about the needle change, his dismissive response (“uh huh yeah”) did not inspire confidence. During my tattoo, his handling was rough—very unlike any of my prior tattoo experiences. When I saw the finished tattoo, the lines were crooked and uneven, far from the example design we had sent in advance. To his credit, Jimmy did apologize and did not charge me for the tattoo, and my mother and cousin chose not to proceed with theirs. However, what was meant to be a special and exciting experience instead felt disheartening. The lack of care and client service was especially upsetting, given that we had made clear what we wanted when booking. If fine line work was outside of his expertise, it would have been far better to be upfront rather than attempt it. Now, I am left with a poorly done tattoo that I will eventually have to pay to remove. I wanted to share this feedback because our experience did not reflect the professionalism or artistry one would expect from a reputable studio. While mistakes can happen, the way clients are treated and the honesty of communication make all the difference. I’m sure jimmy is a more than capable artist. However if he was not capable of doing fine line. He should have said so when we scheduled the appointment or even when we arrived and he realized he couldn’t do it. Thanks
Mike at Seaport is awesome. Love the work, love his attitude. I'd go no where else. I trusted my youngest to him for her first as well.
Tried to get tattooed for our girls trip, was told to come at 630 and they’d stay late, called at few times at 6 to confirm and got no answer, they finally called us back at 625 and I said we’d be there asap & they said no worries but everyone might not get tattooed, I said totally understandable we were just waiting for a call before we walked over! Got there around 640 and the doors were locked/ lights were out and no answer on the phone. I realize we were late but I told them and they said to still come and then ghosted? Mike was nice when I called in the beginning so that’s cool I guess.
Pleasant experience, extremely polite and informative. HELENA did a great job!
Helena is seriously the best!! I’ve been coming to her for a while now and she nails it every time. Works with you to make sure you get exactly what you want, offers solid insight and makes the whole experience so fun/comfortable. Aside from being an insanely talented artist, she’s a great person & every time I go back, it feels like catching up with a friend. Can’t say enough good things about her!! Overall - everyone at Seaport Tattoo is super friendly & the shop is always wicked clean. Highly recommend if you’re in the area 🫶🏻
My sister and I went in for tattoos and it was a great experience. Our artist was Mike and he was amazing. He worked with our ideas and they turned out exactly how we wanted. Would highly recommend!
Helena was so friendly, talented, and thoughtful - she checked in with me consistently throughout the tattooing process to ensure I was comfortable. I’m very happy with how my piece turned out and would return to Helena for future pieces.
As a Black man living in Boston, finding a tattoo artist who’s not only skilled but also makes you feel comfortable and respected hasn’t been easy—especially with many artists being white. Mike, however, is truly the exception. He’s incredibly chill, works with you to stay within your budget, offers solid recommendations, and genuinely wants you to leave with a piece you’re proud of. I highly recommend this spot for anyone getting their first tattoo or adding to their collection. I’ll definitely be coming back for my next one. Thanks again, Mike
Had an awesome experience getting some tattoos here with Mike. He was super friendly and accommodating as we switched one of the tattoos but was totally cool with it. Super happy with both our tattoos as the whole experience was awesome.
