--- type: index name: "Best tattoo & piercing shops" categories: 12 eligible_shops: 2347 url: https://www.localtattoos.com/best/ --- # Best tattoo & piercing shops 2,347 shops out of 2,369 in the directory carry at least 25 Google reviews and qualify for a ranked list. 12 categories cover tattoo styles and studio services. ## How this is ranked Shops are ordered by a Bayesian-adjusted rating: (n × rating + 320 × 4.79) ÷ (n + 320), where n is the shop's Google review count, 320 is the median review count across the directory and 4.79 is the directory-wide mean rating. Only shops with at least 25 reviews qualify; ties go to the shop with more reviews. Ordering is computed at build time from two facts per shop — its Google rating and its Google review count. One listing per street address, and nobody paid for a position. ## Categories | Category | Kind | Shops | States | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | [Realism tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/realism.md) | Style | 475 | 47 | | [Black & grey tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/black-and-grey.md) | Style | 407 | 42 | | [Fine line tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/fine-line.md) | Style | 360 | 41 | | [Traditional tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/traditional.md) | Style | 309 | 42 | | [Japanese tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/japanese.md) | Style | 176 | 34 | | [Script & lettering tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/script-lettering.md) | Style | 112 | 34 | | [Minimalist tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/minimalist.md) | Style | 102 | 30 | | [Geometric tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/geometric.md) | Style | 65 | 26 | | [Piercing shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/piercing.md) | Service | 1,539 | 49 | | [Implant-grade jewelry piercing shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/implant-grade-jewelry.md) | Service | 184 | 38 | | [Cover-up tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/cover-ups.md) | Service | 531 | 46 | | [Walk-in tattoo shops](https://www.localtattoos.com/best/walk-ins.md) | Service | 1,423 | 50 | ##
